About our Program

We are a boutique breeding program, hand-raising one to two litters of puppies at a time and only having a small number of litters per year to be able to provide our families with exceptional puppies. Here at Buttery Bernedoodles, all our dogs are raised in home, as loving family companions first and foremost. We hand-select each and every dog for our program based on healthy bloodlines, personality traits that we desire as family companions and their beautiful coloring.

                           Our Breeding Promise to you:

We pride ourselves on raising the perfect match for your family. There are no shortcuts.

  1. Proper Health Testing on all parent dogs. Genetic testing and OFA (hips/elbows, heart, patella's, eye testing). Before EVERY litter, our Mama's get a pre-breeding exam done by our reproductive vet to ensure health of the Mom.

  2. Family Oriented Temperament: If our parent dogs do not have the right temperament, we will not breed them. If they produce puppies that don't have the right temperament, we will re-evaluate and/or choose not to breed them again.

  3. If our Mama's don't enjoy being Mama's or have difficult pregnancies, deliveries or postpartum, we will evaluate or choose not to breed them again. We want our Mama's to love their puppies as much as we do. Teamwork makes the dream work!

  4. We take a Holistic Approach to life and into our breeding program.

  5. We do not over medicate or over vaccinate our puppies or parents. There's a time and a place for modernized medicine and will be used sparingly

  6. All parents and puppies enjoy a healthy, balanced and species appropriate diet, sunshine and exercise

  7. We do not use any toxic chemicals in our home from cleaners to synthetic fragrances. These are carcinogenic and endocrine disruptors that are especially potent to our furry friends.

  8. We DO deworm on a more spread out schedule and do our best to ensure they don't come home with parasites or worms (it can be common for all dogs during stress responses and may happen from time to time)

  9. We DO send a puppy home with their first set of vaccines, although we are open and can discuss if you would prefer not to vaccinate your puppy

  10. We carefully pair the Mom and Dad for each of our pairings. These explanations can usually be found on our litter page or you are always welcome to ask me!

  11. Temperament Testing: More about this is discussed {here- insert link} but essentially we want the family to connect with their puppy prior to going home. Instead of just placing a deposit on a puppy due to color or gender, we ensure there is the right match happening to the best of our ability. We don't allow anyone to select their dog prior to viewing the Temperament evaluation when pups are between 6-7 weeks old.

At present, we specialize in mini/medium multigenerational Bernedoodles.

A multigenerational bernedoodle is a bernedoodle paired with another bernedoodle generation after generation. This is how purebred breeds were initially created, by choosing the best and most desirable traits to be passed down to future progeny. Simply put, each puppy will take one gene from their Mom and one gene from their Dad. Scientists have already mapped out genes for furnishings (the floofiness the doodle is known for), shedding, color traits and health traits. When you know exactly what each of the parents' genes contain, you can specifically match the Mom and Dad together therefore can more accurately estimate the health, size, colors and temperaments that the litter will produce. This ensures a level of consistency and quality that I believe is not currently present in the F1 (first generation) bernedoodle puppies. Each litter that we bring into the world will have a specific purpose and I will endeavor to have our families understand exactly why that match was made and what we hope to expect in their puppies. In order to continue to improve our program and our puppies, we would love it if our families shared with us about their dog so we can continue to learn and improve.

The reason we specialize in the medium and mini size is multifactorial. At the end of the day, smaller dogs tend to live longer and have less joint and arthritic issues later in life. In today’s economy, it is incredibly hard for singles, newlyweds or even families to own a house with a large backyard. While we would love that for any of our puppies, we also want to ensure those living in cities or in apartments will be able to have dogs and that their lives will be equally happy. Minis and mediums are that perfect balance of active and lazy to be able to thrive in any environment.
